RAM Safety Mark is Argentina's mandatory(except exempted products) certification logo.
Resolution 92/98, adopted by Argentina in 1998, established the certification system as mandatory. From December 31, 2002, regulated products must be assessed by an accreditation body approved by the Argentina Act Organization(OAA). Whether or not the relevant standards are met.
Manufacturers can attach Argentine S marks to products that meet the standards, and product reviews are performed according to IEC standards plus Argentine differences or Argentine standards. In fact, the development of the RAM standard has adopted most of the IEC standard provisions.
Resolution 92/98 was implemented in several phases, with the gradual introduction of mandatory safety requirements for different types of products as of 1 December 2003.
Presentation of the Argentine accreditation phase
In order to ensure the safe use of electrical appliances, Argentina requires that electrical products sold on the market must meet the corresponding safety requirements. A resolution was issued on 16 February 1998 establishing a compulsory certification system to meet minimum safety requirements for electrical products sold on the Argentine market. The implementation of the system is divided into three stages: the first stage: the certification of the Certificate of Compliance at this stage is similar to the CE certification in Europe. All electrical products entering the Argentine market must have a certificate of conformity, which is commonly referred to as the CE certificate. The second stage: Type Recognition products need to be tested in the IAM accreditation laboratory to obtain the type recognition certificate issued by it. Type approval requires only safety testing and no factory review, but no safety certification logo can be used on the product. The third stage: Product Certification During this stage, all products sold on the Argentine market must obtain a national certification mark. Certified products can use the "S" logo. At present, Argentine certification is transitioning to the third stage, that is, product certification, and type accreditation certificates are still acceptable in Argentina. However, in 2001-2002, the product will gradually complete the transition to the certification stage.
Argentine certification process
The first step in certification is, of course, the selection of suitable accreditation bodies and laboratories. IRAM is a certification body in Argentina that has a cooperative relationship with a multinational certification body. IRAM can accept CB reports from most NCBs covering differences in Argentina. The prototype was prepared at 220V/50Hz and used a power cord plug that meets the requirements of the Argentine standard RAM 2073. After the prototype is tested according to the corresponding IEC standard, the NCB issues a CB report. Applications were submitted to IRAM along with the report, letters of authorization, importer's declarations, product design drawings, parameters, electrical circuit charts, product photographs, Spanish nameplates and English manuals. The use of the "S" logo on products also requires factory reviews to ensure consistency in product production. After the report provided to RAM has been reviewed and passed, the product can use the "S" logo.
